I only use waterbased inks, primarily Matsui, but I still occasionally use Union Aerotex inks, and have been experimenting with Gen4 inks. Often when I take my screen to my sink to clean off all the ink, I can spray off the bulk of the ink but am left with a very fine layer of ink on the inside of the screen and I'll have ink on the outside (bottom), either from the ink running through the stencil when cleaning the inside or from other layers in a multiple color print run. Another thing to be concerned about is having a very very thin line of ink surround the stencil. If you don't remove that line of ink and it dries, then you reclaim it, you may find that you have traces of the previous design, which can show up in future prints. You would probably have to powerspray to remove those trace lines.
I use Greenway to take care of these problems, both removing the stencil traces and the ink layers on the emulsion. I squirt some on the screen, and scrub with a medium sponge, and watch the ink come right off. I scrub the inside as well as the outside of the screen. It works like a charm. I recommend it especially if you keep screens for multiple print runs like I do. After going through a quart of it, I'm going to be ordering it by the gallon so that I always have it on hand.
