Aquasol HV
[MSHV]
 $21.00
by STUART BRENT Date Added: Tuesday August 19, 2008
I used to use Ulano QT-Discharge, and it worked great for my waterbased and discharge printing. The problem was that I wasn't using up the gallon in the six weeks of shelf life, so I ran into problems with stencil breakdown and other weird trouble.
Westix had given me a quart sample of Aquasol HV a while back, and I kept it on hand for emergency use. Since I could no longer use my QT-Discharge, I switched to the Aquasol, and have been very happy. I only do waterbased and discharge printing, and have run into no problems.
I do have a couple of complaints however. Having to harden the stencil by post-burning the screen after washout and drying is an extra step, not a huge deal but something to consider. Also, this emulsion seems to allow more ink to pass through the emulsion during the print run, as I've gotten a lot more ink hazing while printing than I did with the Ulano emulsion. This won't be a big deal once I have my washout booth online and can powerspray screens inside to remove all hazing.
A big positive about this emulsion is the shelf life. It's pre-sensitized so the shelf life is up to a year, so it's great if you don't burn a whole lot of screens quickly, and if you're a hobbyist who really doesn't burn a lot of screens. Not having to worry about using up a whole gallon within six weeks is great for me, as sometimes I just don't output that many screens during slow times.
